Whether you choose a wooden fence or a vinyl fence you will want to make sure you take into account the maintenance that is needed when you put up a wooden fence.  Wood fences require regular maintenance like painting, which then means scraping each year. 

Another option is staining; you will also want to make sure that you add a coat of UV protection to ensure that the wood doesn’t warp or crack under constant exposure to the sun.

Installing your privacy fence is a standard weekend job and is usually available in pre-made sections if using vinyl and in some cases you can find a wooden privacy fence that is available in sections as well. 

Either way you will need to install the fence posts.  Careful planning is needed to make sure that you end up with the correct number of poles as well as staying within city codes when it comes to the height of your fence. 

Choose a color that matches your home, or choose a more natural look.  One of the advantages of vinyl is that it is usually available in a variety of shades and colors.  Something that may be appealing to your neighbors if you choose a vinyl privacy fence is that the fence usually looks the same on both sides of the fence.
