Electric Horse Fencing
In 1936 William Gallagher Sr. of New Zealand had a
problem. His horse kept scratching itself against his
car. Using a concept original developed in the United States,
Gallagher used parts from his car and a children’s construction set
to make the first electric horse fencing system. Gallagher
later started the Gallagher Group, which is still developing and
producing electric horse fencing systems.
At its core, the electric horse fence is very simple. Then
fencing is designed to create an electronic network any person or
animal that is also touching the ground.
Since people and animals are mostly water they are quite
conductive and can receive a
very strong shock
from these systems. That shock, depending on the voltage and
current type, can be lethal.
It’s lower cost is just one of the many reasons why ranchers
chose electric horse fencing. The fences serve a dual
purpose. While on one hand an electric horse fencing system
can keep horses within a designated area, it also provides
protection against wild animals for the horses. The current
delivered by electric horse fencing is so effective that many
animals simple stay away from the fences for long periods of time,
even when the fence is inactive.
Electric horse fencing can simply be
added to any existing structures as well. That makes it
very flexible in meeting your needs. Electric fencing is
also very durable and can withstand even extreme
weather. Set up is easy and can usually be done in a day
or two depending on how much land you are covering. Once the
electric horse fencing is up and running it will not be long
before your horses are respecting the boundaries and avoiding
trouble. While one would think that powering an electric
horse 24 hours a day would be expensive, but most modern
systems are very power conscious and you will not see much of
an increase in your monthly power bill.
