Electric Dog Fence
When you own a dog, one of your many concerns is often how to
keep your pet from running away. The electronic dog fence
solves that problem and has been used by thousands of people to
keep their dogs safe.
Your first thought may be that a traditional fence is a
sufficient solution to this problem, but that can be an issue for a
number of reasons. For example, neighborhoods contain
covenants that don’t allow a traditional fence. The
electronic fence then is an excellent alternative. An
electronic fence is a series of underground units or even a wire
that acts as a
transmitter to a receiver around the dog’s collar. If the dog
gets too close to the boundaries that you have set out it will
first get an audio tone to serve as a warning.
If the dog continues to near the boundary the electronic dog
fence system will “correct” your dog by delivering a mild
electronic jolt. As the dog progresses toward the boundary
the strength is increased.
Electronic dog fences cannot be jumped over or dug underneath
which keeps your yard looking attractive.
Many
have questioned just how humane the “correction” is on an
electronic dog fence system. Fear not, the electronic
shock received from these units is very low level. Have
you ever shocked yourself or someone after rubbing your socks
on the carpet?
Professionals have confirmed that the shock received is about
the same as that. It’s just enough to reinforce what you are
teaching your dog during the training phase of the electronic dog
fence.
A short training period should be expected when implementing an
electronic dog fence, because your dog will have to learn where the
boundaries are.
When first using and electronic dog fence you should be using an
additional means of containment in order to make the transition as
easy as possible for your pet.
