Different Types Of
Fence - Choosing
What Is Right For You
When
landscaping, many different types of fences are available. Multiple
factors should be considered, including security and privacy,
aesthetic qualities, durability, budget, and function. By comparing
materials and construction methods, you can narrow the field to
find what type of fence is right for your home.
If security is most important, choose an option that is strong
and cannot be easily climbed by intruders. As for construction
materials, metal is the strongest and longest lasting. You can also
install an electronic security system at the gate to prevent
unwanted visitors from entering. A wire mesh fenc e is a less expensive
secure choice; it cannot be easily cut or climbed and provides a
screen of privacy. Taller wooden or vinyl fences built in the
"shadowbox" style also provide a moderate level of privacy and
security for less.
These different types of fences, however, are not the most eye
pleasing. In a landscaped setting where the fence is not meant to
be a strong barrier, use bamboo, wrought iron, or wooden fencing.
These will give you the unique or traditional look that you
want.
For the most durable option, definitely go with a metal fence.
This material will last a lifetime and, with the proper coating,
stands up to weather when vinyl and wood will not. Increase
strength by putting posts close t ogether, or hire a professional to install your
fence.
Professional installation might not be in your budget. If price
is the most important thing in your mind, go with a wood or vinyl
option. Many different types of fences are available pre-made, so
this is also very convenient. Wood will cost less outright, but
there will be less upkeep costs with vinyl products.
Lastly, remember that function is a fence's primary objective in
most cases. Different types of fences are made for different types
of situations. Live by a loud highway? Use a stockade design built
with thick wood to block the noise. Worried about deer in the
garden? Consider electrical fencing options. Want to keep your
toddler safe? A tall fence made of vinyl (which won't splinter)
might be the perfect choice for you. Remember, before you begin
your project, think about what is important to you so you aren't
overwhelmed by the numerous difference types of fences on the
market.
