Keeping Badgers Out of Your Garden with Fencing & Hardware Cloth

Badgers are clever, determined little animals and to gardeners, they are outright pests – burrowing into the ground and uprooting plants and flowers. But there are some easy steps that you can take to protect your garden from these bothersome animals.

Fencing Hardware ClothSimply put, badgers like to dig holes and once they’ve made your garden a playground, you’ll have some serious problems to deal with. The first step is to try and prevent badgers from coming near your home to begin with. By keeping the water and food of your pets indoors and making sure your garbage cans are tightly sealed, a badger may decide to move onto the next door over if it finds nothing particularly interesting to rummage through, eat or drink at your residence. Also, scarecrows, loud portable radios, and sprinklers can all help to keep badgers at a distance – as badgers are nervous creatures and will steer clear of a busy or noisy environment.

Once a badger has infiltrated your yard however, there is still hope. Fencing & hardware cloth is your best bet in this case.

BadgersFirst of all, if a badger has yet to tunnel through your garden, you can prevent it from doing so by placing electric fencing around your plants and flowers, low to the ground. Moreover, a tall, smooth wall (bricks work well) can be built around your garden, protecting your plants and deterring a badger from climbing it.

BadgersBut fencing is not enough! As aforementioned, badgers love to dig underground and this makes them sneaky invaders. However, if you place a wire grid over your garden, the badger will not be able to dig up your garden. Don’t worry; plants and flowers will still grow properly. This material is called hardware cloth and you can think of it as a sort of filter for pests.

Fencing Hardware ClothFencing & hardware cloth together will secure your garden well, but keeping those harmful creatures out of your garden in the first place is ideal!

Heres the deal: the gate to my back fence is roughly 25 feet from my back door. I am running a fence from the gate to my door so that I can let my dogs out the back door without having fear of them not making it to the actual gate. In essence its just a small run for them. It is only 1 long piece of fencing and i do not need it to connect to anything, just be free standing. I have 25 feet of hardware cloth and enough t posts for the job. I am having problems connecting the fencing to the t pos
